I thought only dogs ate shoes!
Wednesday, January 28, 2009 -- I thought only dogs ate shoes!
Since Maya has become more mobile, changing her diaper and clothes has become more of a challenge. I have found that giving her a distraction helps. Recently, her favorite thing to play with is her red shoes. She loves to chew on them! Who needs a puppy when you have Maya!

Winter has arrived
Monday, January 26, 2009 -- Winter has arrived
Today Maya and I didn't go out. The forecast was for up to 1/4 inch of ice accumulation and the roads were definitely bad. The news was constantly recording the weather conditions and resulting traffic issues. I was happy when AJ got home safely around 2:00. Tomorrow shouldn't be much better, but at least we already know that AJ will have a shorter day since many of the schools are already closed.

Maya loves bathtime!
Saturday, January 24, 2009 -- Maya loves bathtime!
Maya absolutely loves bathtime! Maybe it stems from her love to be naked, but there is something truly special about that time in the water for her. I think she would stay in there all night if we gave her the option! Sometimes I wish we could because getting her dressed in her pjs afterwards is quite the traumatic task!

I'm wearing flip flops in January!
Thursday, January 22, 2009 -- I'm wearing flip flops in January!
Today our high temperatures were in the 70s! We took advantage of the weather and explored two parks in the area. Maya still doesn't seem to like the swings, but I am still holding out hope that she will love them later! She wasn't feeling like giving me any smiles this afternoon, but I love the way the sun shines on her in this picture!
Always on the move!
Wednesday, January 21, 2009 -- Always on the move!
Maya seems to never stay still anymore. She seems so close to crawling. She is almost always on all fours and she has impressed us by rolling/climbing her way uphill onto her changing surface. I know this presents more challenges keeping her safe and contained, but it is fun seeing her develop and explore the world around her.
Inauguration Day
Tuesday, January 20, 2009 -- Inauguration Day
What a day! Maya and I slept in and then we watched all of the inauguration festivities. There is quite a media frenzy about this historic day, but I agree, it's hard not feeling excited and empowered. I, like so many others, am much more interested in politics now. I look foward to the changes our new president will enact. Pictures of Maya watching the inaugural parade trumped her seven month pictures we took this evening. Now that she is so mobile, it is difficult getting her to stay flat for a decent picture that matches the rest! I am amazed at how much she has changed when I view all of the pictures together!Monday, January 19, 2009

Her hair looks so brown with the sun shining on it. It's crazy how much lighter it has gotten since she was born!

Trying something new
Friday, January 16, 2009 -- Trying something new
Maya was prescribed three different medications for her RSV, in addition to needing stuff squirted up her nose to clear things out. Poor thing, she hated every bit of it and had a hard time keeping the medication down (i.e. projectile vomit all over Maya, me, and the glider last night.) When she had trouble with it earlier today, I talked with AJ and we decided to call her doctor's office and see what they said. They thought it would be best to have her come in again and see if we can change the form of her medications.
This time we were able to see Dr. Dooley (we like her so much!) and she put Maya on a nebulizer instead. Although Maya didn't like being swaddled and having something cover her mouth and nose, crying for about 10 minutes was much better than throwing up and crying for nearly an hour like the night before. She seems to be feeling better already, and her lovely smiles are back!

It makes me sad...
Monday, January 12, 2009 -- It makes me sad...
Maya is still not feeling well. She definitely gets worse as the day goes on. I was trying to give her a little cereal tonight, and she kept coughing and getting all red. I felt so badly for her. I feel like there is nothing I can do. She even has little red bags under her eyes. Poor thing. Hopefully she gets a good night's sleep and feels better in the morning.

Moving on up!
Saturday, January 10, 2009 -- Moving on up!
Today we went out to lunch at Old Chicago, and while sitting in her infant seat and the sling restaurants provide to set them in, Maya was taking up a lot of space. We saw a little boy sitting in a highchair, and he didn't look any bigger than Maya, and we said she could do that. Thus, Maya had her first experience sitting in a highchair. She seemed to like the fact that she could look all around. We hope she learned that it's not a good idea to try to eat the table as she made an attempt at this and started to cry. All-in-all, a good first experience.

Loving the aquarium
Friday, January 9, 2009 -- Loving the aquarium
We visited the OKC zoo again today. I was kinda mad at myself for waiting to go until today because it wasn't quite so windy yesterday. We had a nice visit nonetheless. Maya still seemed to like the aquarium the best. Maya eventually fell asleep and took a long nap while I discovered some nice parts of the zoo that we didn't see the first time.

A little out-of-sorts
Wednesday, January 7, 2009 -- A little out-of-sorts
Maya had two shots yesterday at her doctor's appointment, and she definitely seemed out-of-sorts today. I expected her to have a little fever like last time (100.5 degrees) but I never thought she wouldn't want to eat! That is definietly a first with Maya. She just seemed very lathargic after waking up this morning. Some infant tylenol throughout the day seemed to help and she was her social self at story-time (aka book club) this morning. Here's to hoping that tonight goes well!
6 Month Check-up
Tuesday, January 6, 2009 -- 6 Month Check-up
I'm still trying to squeeze out as much time with Maya's infant car seat as possible. It is safe until she is 22 lbs, and today she weighed in at 19 lbs. Her doctor said we are probably ok for another 6 weeks or so. At least we will make it through the coldest part of winter. She is now 26 5/8 inches long as well. While AJ and I feel like her growth has leveled off a little bit, she remains at the 75th% for her length and 90th% for her weight. We feel so very blessed with our happy and very healthy baby girl!

Who left the freezer door open?
Sunday, January 4, 2009 -- Who left the freezer door open?
It was so nice enjoying the outdoors yesterday. We took advantage of the weather because we knew it wasn't going to last long. Today the high was 40 degrees cooler, only in the thirties! When we lived up north we were used to these temperatures and they didn't bug us quite as much, but this up and down stuff makes it difficult to get used to. Well, we decided to use our science museum membership and stay indoors. We explored some areas we didn't see last time and had a nice visit. Maya had her first attempt at walking on a balance beam and hanging on the parallel bars upstairs at the museum at the international gymnastics hall of fame.
What a nice day!
Saturday, January 3, 2009 -- What a nice day!
I can't believe that it's January and the high for today is in the 70s! While moving back to KC will be worth it to be closer to family and friends, I think we will miss this wonderful weather! We took advantage of the day, like many others, and went to Lake Hefner. Maya slept for a good while but woke up for the second half of our walk and even played around a little bit at the playground. AJ has been on a break from school since early Wednesday and it has been so nice to be able to spend so much time together. Maya has really been enjoying herself too!

Maya is absolutely fascinated with everything technological. Her recent favorites: cell phones, laptops, and the remote control. I remember my first experience with a computer, playing a sesame street game on my dad's commodore computer. With the crazy stuff available today, that computer seems so ancient! It's mind-boggling to think of the things that will be normal to Maya as she grows up!

Happy 2009!
Welcome 2009! While 2008 was a life-changing year holding some of the most precious memories I have ever experienced, I know that the upcoming year has a lot in store for our little family as well. I was really bummed when I came across a scrapbooking kit (called project 365) that helped you scrapbook an entire year by taking a picture and journaling each day, I decided that I can try it myself with a blog. This fits with my new years resolution to be "less high-maintenance" and I figure someday I might be able to scrap my memories. So, here goes!
While this picture was taken around 9:30 on New Year's Eve, we didn't even try to have Maya stay up until midnight! AJ even took a short nap before the ball dropped. We both agree that new years is a little anti-climatic. Being on central time, all the build-up on tv finishes at 11:00, and even when we do our own count down before midnight, at about 12:01 we were just ready for bed. I look forward to special midnight memories with Maya in the future, but for now, here's to 2009!
